Pozycja Globalizacja światowej gospodarki a trendy we współczesnej turystyce(Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM, 2011) Ostrowska, DorotaGlobalization is a process which leads to a greater and greater interdependence and integration of countries, societies, economies and cultures. The process results in creating a world society, in disappearing of an idea of a nation state, as well as in an increase in the importance of international organizations. The factors which intensified globalization were: the occurrence of the economy based on knowledge, the wide usage of the Internet, and the development of international organizations influencing the functioning of nations, e.g. the United Nations, the European Union, as well as the development of non-governmental organizations. The globalization, then, dates back to the 18th, 19th and 20th century. It was the most essential technological, economic, social and political powers that made companies become international, and later global. All these powers are closely connected and to some degree interdependent. The modern tourism makes use of acceleration, which is a part of the process of globalization. In modern tourism the term the world has shrunk reflects processes taking place in the fields of communications, information access and the speed with which it is acquired, as well as discovering new touristic regions. The essential role of global telecommunications network should not be overlooked as far as the development of tourism in the world is concerned. Nowadays the high dynamics of the increase in international tourism is the result of the conquest of the me and space achieved thanks to modern technology and lowering costs of transport. The general improvement in life conditions, achieved thanks to competition, has gained access to new world subregions for tourism. The increase in tourists in the world is considerably connected with an increasing exchange between developed world regions. When it comes to tourism, the process of globalization indicates that traditional touristic areas lose in the market share due to a faster and faster increase of the competition. The processes of globalization lead to a world’s standardization of quality and comfort provided by tourism services. Globalization is an irreversible megatrend which is and will still be essential in tourism.
