This expression "6 sigma", "6 a" all the time belongs to the vocabulary of probability and statistics. But now this expression is used very often in two new meanings elaborated in the field of quality management. In the frame of probability and statistics the concept "6 sigma" is connected with the length of the so called three sigma interval fulfilling the rule of three standard deviations. In the quality management domain the term "6 a" is used in two distinct sense. The first of the two meanings concerns the measuring of quality level using the so called process capability indices. The last of the new meaning of "6 sigma" denotes a class of quality management methods and techniques oriented to enterprise financial effectiveness. In this note the concise characterization of every of the three meanings of the "six sigma" concept is given.
