Kierunki przemian społeczno-politycznych(Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM, 2012) Brataniec, Katarzyna; Zamojska, AleksandraWith few exceptions the Arab world has made a big progress toward political liberalization in the recent two years. Morocco could be a model to follow for other countries if it sustains current direction of political change. The King Muhammad VI decided to lead important reforms: amendment to the Constitution, separation of the structures of power and independence of the judiciary. In this way, the situation has not led to signifiant outburst of citizen anger and rioting like in a number of Arab states. Political and social reforms were initiated by the King addressing the requests and needs of the society, for example the reform of family code called Mudawwana. Muhammad VI recognized the multicultural roots of Moroccan society, confirmed gender equality and extended the freedom of speech. Yet, these changes did not address the needs of all social groups. Demands for more responsive and accountable government, pressures for economic reforms, and greater pluralism in the shaping of public policy arose in Morocco. Nevertheless, opposition considered these changes insufficient, given the scale of youth unemployment, lack of prospects, failure of woman’s rights and crisis of education. In Morocco state legitimacy does not decline because of a particular position of the King, religious legitimacy of power and specific political culture of Moroccan society. According to many analysts, the Kingdom of Morocco did not dismantle the basic structures of power, especially the influential elite institution – machzen.Pozycja On the state of Latin American states: approaching the bicentenary(Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM, 2009) Pietschmann, Horst; Graham, Lawrence S.; Lewis, Colin M.; Valdivieso, Patricio; Paleczny, Tadeusz; Posern-Zieliński, Aleksander; Stemplowski, Ryszard; Escudé, Carlos; Stemplowski, RyszardWhat is the actual condition of the state in Latin America? Each contributor to this volume has been invited to answer this question by writing an interpretative essay from a specifically suggested angle: the origins of the state; government and society; economic growth; society and economy; nation-building; the indigenous population; political culture; international relations etc. It was the contributors’ decision which particular states to focus on in order to best illuminate the issues involved. Our main focus in the volume is on outlining some of the processes concerning the state now, two hundred years since the first declarations of independence. Along the way, we tackle both theoretical and normative issues. All the contributors to this volume share a long-cultivated multidisciplinary research interest in Latin America but the volume also reflects our disagreement on what we take the state to be as well as on the prevailing situation in Latin America. Each chapter reflects the views of its author all the way down to his choice of British or American English. As a result all chapters reflect the authors’ views on the contemporary state of the State in Latin America, as well as – why not say it – the authors’ identities. The book is aimed primarily at academics and students of the humanities and social sciences.Pozycja Państwo i Społeczeństwo nr 2, 2003(Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM, 2003) Biernat, Tadeusz; Lewandowska-Malec, Izabela; Zarzycki, Zdzisław; Reszczyński, Jarosław; Sobczak, Witold; Wałecka, Agnieszka; Zgórniak, Marian; Kargol, Anna; Hoffmann, Henryk; Babuśka, Iwona; Rosicka, Janina; Warszyńska, Jadwiga; Oliwkiewicz, Barbara; Swierczyńska, Jowita; Kubacka, Dominika; Staszków, Jan; Dziedzicki, Jan; Kapiszewski, AndrzejPozycja Państwo i Społeczeństwo nr 4, 2006(Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM, 2006) Blachnicki, Bogusław; Fałowski, Janusz; Cichoń, Paweł; Banasik, Katarzyna; Chlipała, Monika; Grygajtis, Krzysztof; Pondel, Gaweł; Kimla, Piotr; Dziadzio, Andrzej; Majchrowski, JacekPozycja Społeczno-polityczne uwarunkowania kryzysu i przemian na Ukrainie na przełomie 2013 i 2014 roku(Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM, 2015) Kęsek, RafałIn this article the author characterizes the socio-political conditions of the crisis in Ukraine at the turn of 2013 and 2014. Contrary to the absolutism dominant in Western Europe, where the fullness of power was concentrated in the hands of the monarch, in Poland, starting from the 16th century, power passed into the hands of the noble state, and republican forms were mixed with monarchist ones (the so-called republica mixta). The Sejm becomes the highest organ of power, bringing together the full legislative power, the power of the elected monarch gets limited, the administrative structure – based on lifetime offices – is anachronistic (until the middle of the 18th century), the judiciary retains its state character and from the 16th century becomes independent of the king, which is unique compared to most of the then existing countries. The system of democracy of the nobility created at that time clearly distinguishes the Polish political system from the solutions that were dominating during the modern era. In the first half of the 18th century, this form of government becomes deformed. During the magnate oligarchy, real power passes into the hands of a small group of the richest. Poland is in the state of decline. To counteract this, reforms are being gradually introduced during the reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski, the last Polish king. However, they prove to be long overdue. The constitution passed on May 3, 1791 – the second in the world – did not last long, and the third partition of Poland meant the loss of independence for 123 years. The reasons for the fall of the Republic of Poland can be found in the external factors, in the disintegration of state institutions and the growing anarchy, but also in a specific Polish systemic anomaly, which did not withstand the confrontation with the centralized absolute monarchy of the neighbouring countries. The attempt to build in Poland a democratic state based on law turned out to be premature.Pozycja The Solidarity movement and perspectives on the last decade of the Cold War(Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM, 2010) Domaradzki, Spasimir; Kramer, Mark; Bessonova, Maryna; Grozev, Kostadin; Verhofstad, Rob; Trepanier, Lee; Stanke, Jaclyn; Trepanier, Lee; Domaradzki, Spasimir; Stanke, JaclynFrom introduction by Jaclyn Stanke: The origins of this volume are rooted in the many discussions and meetings that took place between Maryna Bessonova, Spasimir Domaradzki, and Rob Verhofstad over the past several years. In the summer of 2004, Bessonova and Verhofstad met as Fulbright scholars studying American foreign policy in the United States. In the course of that summer, the two discussed the many different and varying views that existed within Europe concerning America’s foreign policy past and present. Their conversations continued when they returned home and began visiting each other’s universities in Ukraine and the Netherlands as guest lecturers. In the process, they discovered how little their students knew about the Cold War period, not having lived through it or having experienced it themselves. Consequently, their students had a difficult time grasping just what the Cold War was, why it was one of the most significant phenomenons of the twentieth century, and how it affected the daily lives of individuals around the world, including those from their own countries. In the summer of 2005, Domaradzki met Bessonova and Verhofstad at a conference in Croatia. He shared their concern regarding students’ difficulty in comprehending the Cold War, and as a result a project to explore the Cold War from comparative national perspectives officially began. Over the course of the next few years, the three traveled to each other’s universities to deliver lectures on the Soviet, Dutch, and Polish perspectives. In 2009, Jaclyn Stanke and Lee Trepanier joined the endeavor, providing American perspectives at the conference, “Multilateral Comparison of Cold War Perspectives,” organized by Verhofstad at his home institution, Radboud University. The proceedings from the conference were published as Comparative Perspectives on the Cold War: National and Sub-National Approaches (Krakow Society for Education: AFM Publishing House, 2010).Pozycja Współczesna przestrzeń polityczna.
