"Standards concerning polygraph examinations for common application can be found in by-laws as well as in recommendations issued by the American Polygraph Association (APA) and in standards adopted by ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials International). Th e fi rst of these organizations was founded in 1966 and has a membership of over three thousand polygraphists, whereas the second is a normalization organization which can trace its roots back to 1898.
