Pozycja Kształtowanie umiejętności życiowych uczniów klas początkowych w toku innowacyjnych warsztatów plastycznych Nauka – Sztuka – Edukacja na przykładzie badań eksperymentalnych(Copyright by Krakowska Akademia im. Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego & Towarzystwo Naukowe „Societas Vistulana”, 2021) Aksman, JoannaThe present publication is the result of many years of studies carried out in Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine. The origins of these research projects go back to the years 2011–2013. As a result of numerous research tasks performed by a team of 10 scientists from various universities and 15 students of Andrzej Frycz Morzewski Krakow University, appropriately selected for the purpose of the study at hand, under the scientific supervision of the author of this publication, the Science – Art – Education Model (Model Nauka – Sztuka – Edukacja, abbreviated as NSE) was created along with an art education program for children of early school age, incorporating work with an artistically gifted student105. In 2013, the developed model was introduced in 15 primary schools, and studies on its application continued for six months. The teachers expressed their willingness to continue the implementation of the NSE model and help in this process from the methodological point of view. Conclusions from international and Polish research studies conducted between 2011–2013 prompted the planning and development of a further, more detailed research procedure. For this purpose, the author conducted a three-year – longitudinallstudy (2015–2018) organised in 12 schools in southern Poland, using the method of experiment where the control group and the experimental group were employed, and in two schools using the experimental group only. The goal of the study was to determine the impact of the NSE model on the development of life skills in early school-age children. For research purposes, three innovative textbooks with teaching materials for teachers were created – serving to assist in the art education programme for children in grades 1–3 of primary school. Subsequently, three schools were selected out of all the schools that had implemented the model at the beginning of the study. In these three, the study of selected variables in the annual time series was planned and executed. The selected schools differed in terms of their location (a school in a large city, a school in a smaller town, and a school in a rural area). The changes taking place in the life skills of children are illustrated in photographs and methodological films recorded on an on-going basis every year within the duration of the research project. These films and the photographic record contain: selected children’s artworks, the record of individual work shaping the ability to make decisions and shaping one’s own creativity, the record of group work to teach coping and managing stress, and the picture of shaping interpersonal skills in the vital part of art workshops – namely, affirmation) They are included in the present publication. The publication consists of the theoretical, methodological, and analytical parts, in which particular research problems are discussed in detail. The theoretical part consists of two chapters, the first relating to the theories pertaining to the NSE model and its fundamental reference to the life skills of children. This reference is made in the context of health education and mental health education not only for artistically gifted children, but also for the entire class. The second chapter of this part shows the theoretical references to inclusive activities for the integration of the class community, which has also become an important element of the presented NSE model. Here the references go back to the movements of positive pedagogy and psychology. The methodological part presents the objectives, the subject of the research, the research problems and hypotheses, as well as research variables and indicators, research method, research group, and research area. The chronology of the research procedure and the method of research analysis are also expounded. Linear mixed models, Student’s t-tests, and non-parametric Mann- -Whitney and Friedman tests were used for intergroup comparisons, while the Spearman correlation coefficient was used in order to measure the strength of the correlation between the variables. The analytical part presents the results of the studies with reference to the previously adopted specific problems. We have shown the impact of the implementation of the innovative model of art education (Science – Art – Education) on shaping the life skills of children in grades 1–3 of primary school in relation to shaping interpersonal skills, skills for building self-awareness, decision- making as well as coping and managing stress in children. We also presented the correlations between self-esteem and interpersonal relations, hope and efficiency of actions, self-esteem and cooperation, collaboration and creative attitude in experimental groups, in terms of statistical calculations. The results are presented in a descriptive and tabular format, embracing the conclusions of the entire study. The conclusions from the study are optimistic, as all the research hypotheses regarding the positive impact of the NSE model on shaping the life skills of children have been confirmed. This confirmation gives us hope for the model’s feasibility of application in school practice, especially after the pandemic period. The analysis of the research process was conducted using the data collected from the application of various research techniques of the pedagogical experiment method aimed at children, especially three standardized diagnostic tests106. In the final part of the publication we will find: a list of tables (174) and diagrams (4), references, and a list of annexes. The appendix presents the structure of the NSE model, the three-year curriculum and program of innovative art classes for children in early school education, a sample scenario of workshop activities, illustrating the independent variables introduced during the three years of the experiment, and diagnostic tests used in the study.
