dc.description.abstractThis thesis discusses selected threats to health and life encountered in sailing. It includes a description of the issues, ways of prevention, specific symptoms and recommended behavior under conditions of limited access to emergency services. The paper specifically focuses on aspects of drowning, near-drowning and possible complications, hypothermia caused by falling overboard, sea sickness as a temporary dysfunction of the brain and potential risks posed by selected sea animals. The thesis argues that proper handling in the first minutes of an accident often determines the success of a rescue operation; threat awareness can contribute to greater safety, better procedures and avoidance of danger.pl
