    From Introduction: "This issue is different from all previous ones. Thus, an introduction to it needs to be different from earlier ones. There has to be a place for reflection, which used to be included in an interview preceding academic articles. Clever readers will find out soon why this is so if they only think about the professional path of one of the editors. However, it is not the only reason. A special character of this issue is also due to the anniversary, the 20th already, of the September 11, 2001 attacks which have changed the world around us. They led it onto a new path which became the global war on international terrorism, or rather with terrorists and organisations bringing them together. The fight was joined by many states whose governments reached for armed forces, regarding this as the best tool for winning the war. They forgot that this was a way to eliminate only one generation of terrorists, but not the sources of the phenomenon which would motivate a generation after generation. For example, according to the wave theory of terrorism, those who did not participate directly in the struggle watched it carefully, and everybody felt its consequences, both as ongoing wars and their aftermath, changes in internal legislature perceived as limiting civil liberties, and terrorist attacks happening in various places. Attacks which were tragic and spectacular, but not with as many casualties as on September 11."(...)

    Evolution, Darwin, and catholic belief

    "In recent years there has been much discussion of the theory of evolution and its relation to Christian belief. This discussion has been particularly intense in the United States, but it involves theological and philosophical questions of fundamental importance to all Christians. Unfortunately, the discussion has often been conducted by people holding extreme positions and reported on by journalists interested primarily in sensationalism. As a consequence, confusion and misunderstandings abound. In this article I will attempt to clarify the issues and examine them from a Catholic point of view. Much of the confusion is created or compounded by ambiguous terminology. It is useful, therefore, to begin by clarifying terms, and most importantly the term “evolution” itself. The theory of evolution has several layers; and when people refer to “evolution” in the current controversies, it is not always clear to which layer they are referring. First, there is the evolution of species, the idea that the present species of plants and animals arose from other species by a gradual process, and that ultimately all of them came from a single original form of life. This is sometimes called the theory of “common descent”, since it says that all living things descended from a common ancestor. Second, there is human evolution, the idea that human beings evolved in the same way and are thus part of the same branching tree of life. Finally, there is the Darwinian mechanism, the idea that evolution is driven by natural selection acting on random genetic mutations."(...)

    From Ancient Oracles to Modern Techniques: The Evolution of Deception Detection and the Benefits of Investigative Interviewing

    Throughout history, different methods and instrumental designs have been used to identify and obtain the truth. Some of the methods described in this work are based on myths that have remained over time, but due to this legacy are unlikely to be applied, such as the Osiris judgment. In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of these methods, such as the period in which they were used, their scientific validation, and their passive or active approach according to the literature. Some approaches have established the theoretical foundations for the development of more precise technologies that are currently used, such as the Bisha Bedouin Court System (ordeal by fire), which is based on arousal theory (response). This work also includes innovative applications such as the use of interview techniques to detect deception, which stands out for their wide spectrum of use in different contexts. Finally, we mention elements of investigative interview models and highlight the benefits of using verbal approaches to detect deception.

W związku z rozwojem prac nad tymi zagadnieniami należy rozważyć, w jakich sytuacjach uzasadnione staje się stosowanie algorytmów genetycznych w informatyce, automatyce. W tym celu zostanie dokonany przegląd algorytmów ewolucyjnych. Następnie w kolejnej części artykułu przedstawione zostaną zastosowania algorytmów genetycznych w konkretnych przypadkach z zakresu wymienionych wcześniej dziedzin.
