Rozwój firm oparty o kompetencje ekologiczne przebiega w różny sposób, przy czym współczesne modele zarządzania eksponują znaczenie powiązań sieciowych – zarówno wewnątrz korporacji, jak i miedzy organizacjami. Również badania własne potwierdzają znaczenie ekologii w budowie powiązań sieciowych. Ekologia jest ważna zarówno w przypadku tworzenia rynkowych, ekologicznych standardów globalnych, jak też w przypadku rozwoju regionalnego. Kompetencje ekologiczne tworzone w trakcie uczenia się organizacji wpływają na budowę pozycji konkurencyjnej przedsiębiorstw, stanowiąc istotny czynnik dokonywanych wyborów strategicznych.

Company strategies based on the assumptions of sustainable development should include the fact that a key factor in achieving a success is the realization of the assumptions of an organization which is all the time learning, flexible and intelligent. It means the necessity of applying environmental knowledge and environmental competences. The way to the company’s success may be the links based on the environmental factor. Specificity of the ecology causes that in the link net there will appear intelligent companies, pro-ecological non-profit organizations and intelligent civil service. The net connections based on ecology are likely to refer to sectors of its activity, manufacturing chains and regional concentrations. Environmental competences being built on the base of links between particular SBU corporations, as well as the connections between different organizations, may lead to creating values described as Value Creation Index (VCI). Our own researches carried out on the group of 22 companies of automotive industry show that ecology is perceived mainly as an element of the competence based on the quality and its innovative character. The biggest difference between the current state and the expectations refers to the role of the ecology in the connections between partners.
